Accenture bolsters UK sustainability business with Carbon Intelligence acquisition

Accenture has made another move to bolster its sustainability portfolio with its acquisition of Carbon Intelligence.

The London-based carbon and climate change strategy consultancy claims to use Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI) strategies to help customers understand their overall carbon footprints and ways to reduce them.

The deal will see more than 160 professionals - including data scientists, consultants and sustainability experts - join the Accenture fold.

"Carbon Intelligence expands our expertise in carbon strategy and delivery, building on the insights of our recently created global carbon intelligence network," said Peter Lacy, Accenture's global sustainability services lead and chief responsibility officer.

Carbon Intelligence is Accenture's fifth sustainability-focused acquisition in the last year and the second in the UK, the first being Avieco.

Accenture says it is placing greater emphasis on sustainability by expanding capabilities in sustainability strategy, supply chain transformation and data-driven measurement.

At the same time, it claims to have xpanded its partner network, invested in its people and recruited new talent.

"We continue deepening our global capabilities in sustainability - one of the forces that companies must harness to lead in the next decade - in areas that are crucial for the energy transition," Lacy said.

"Alongside this we are embedding 360-degree value for our stakeholders with our growing number of partners, venture investments and, most importantly, our clients."

Accenture claims Carbon Intelligence has helped numerous multinational companies set science-based decarbonisation targets and develop measurable strategies to achieve them.

The company is also an accredited partner to CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project).

Jonathan Sykes, CEO of Carbon Intelligence said: "The Carbon Intelligence team is made up of amazing, passionate people who are committed to driving real impact on climate change.

"We are excited to be joining Accenture, which will help us scale our capabilities and fulfil our mission to help businesses make a successful transition to a low-carbon world."
