Dell Technologies international sales boss Aongus Hegarty leaves the business
CRN has learned the news has been announced internally, and Hegarty will be replaced by North America VP John Byrne effective immediately
Dell Technologies has confirmed to CRN that Aongus Hegarty has stepped down from running the vendor's international sales business as president of EMEA.
A source told CRN the news was announced internally in recent days.
In a statement, a Dell spokesperson said Hegarty has decided to retire and will be replaced with current president of North American sales John Byrne.
"Aongus is an immensely respected leader who has contributed to the success of Dell Technologies for nearly 25 years.
"We wish him well in his new chapter. John Byrne will expand his remit to assume global responsibility for all regional (North America, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Latin America, Asia Pacific | Japan, and Greater China) and Dell Technologies Select Sales.
"He will continue to report to Bill Scannell, president of Global Sales and Customer Operations."
Dell also confirmed that Byrne will assume his role effective immediately, with Hegarty staying on through Q1 to help him transition into the new role.
The sales leadership reshuffle comes as the vendor is cutting five per cent of its global workforce.
The axe of over 6,000 jobs was announced yesterday, which will result in Dell Technologies' lowest headcount since 2017.
Dell pointed the finger at the wider slump in global PC sales.
"Since June, we paused external hiring and reduced spending to navigate a challenging global environment," Dell told CRN.
Other Dell executive changes
In Dell's EMEA leadership, the vendor also lost its VP of Central and North Europe channel this week, Sarah Shields, to its largest EMEA partner Computacenter.
Sarah Shields told CRN she will join the London Stock Exchange-listed VAR and IT services giant in April in the new role of group alliance director.
