How to save the planet: Nebula publishes ESG guide for the channel

Nebula Global Services today publishes its brand new report providing channel firms with an insight on how to build a sustainable technology channel community.

The report, ESG Unwrapped: Building a Sustainable Channel Community, also acts as a guide for businesses on their journey through the complexity of ESG and sustainability.

The channel services firm assembled a group of sustainability experts from across the technology sector who called for channel players to redefine their approach to sustainability to make a more tangible and collective impact.

The report also acts as a guide for SME businesses to kickstart their ESG strategy. Broken down into three chapters, ESG Unwrapped explores the advantages of ESG and how it drives revenues, gives relevant legal considerations for the channel community, and includes a comprehensive 10-step guide to start the journey.

The channel must unite

"It's great that so many channel organisations have ESG strategies in place," said Nebula CMO Richard Eglon (pictured). "However, we need to break free from traditional channel business rules and become more aligned, working together to form sustainable, ethical value chains in the technology sector."

Oliver Mason, MD at IT lifecycle solutions company KOcycle adds that collaboration and communication are vital when talking about maximising the impact of an ESG strategy.

"Ideas that best serve the planet and the people within it should not be seen as USP's, but as knowledge that can be shared to drive awareness," Mason said.

While Jenny Latimer, head of alliances and operations at Highgate IT Solutions, believes the channel has a "unique opportunity".

"Competitor status can be thrown aside to work together to make a difference in the world, for our generation and generations to come. Now is the time for collaboration and support - what do you want your legacy to be?"

Partners making progress

Sustainability is being driven to the forefront of business strategies as governments pile on the pressure for organisations to up their ESG game to keep the large enterprises in check and hold them to account.

For smaller companies that lack the level of resources as these large firms, it's far more challenging to allocate an ESG strategy.

But considering there are 5.6 million SMEs in the UK, making up 99.2 per cent of the total business population, according to the latest government data, not engaging the SME community in ESG is an oversight.

Moreover, the technology sector stands as the most substantial contributor to the SME community (see figure one), at the heart of which sits the channel.

Several channel partners have already made strides in their ESG journey, with the likes of SCC, Computacenter, Softcat, WWT and SHI making progress with their SBTi goals.
