UK enterprises pouring £1bn into green tech yearly
A new survey found UK enterprises with over 250 employees spend an average of £917,540 annually on green technologies, underscoring their sustainability commitment
UK enterprises are investing heavily in green technologies, a new survey commissioned by IT service provider Auxilion and HPE found.
The survey, conducted by Censuswide, involved 100 IT decision-makers from UK enterprises with over 250 employees.
The findings indicate that enterprises utilising green technologies are spending an average of £917,540 annually on these initiatives.
This substantial investment, amounting to nearly £1bn across the surveyed organisations, underscores the commitment of UK enterprises to sustainability.
The survey highlighted the high priority placed on sustainability by UK enterprises, with 79 per cent of IT decision-makers stating that it is a current priority for their organisation.
Furthermore, 84 per cent expressed pride in their company's commitment to green IT initiatives.
The reason behind the intention of UK enterprises making sustainability a priority was the direct impact it has on their business.
When surveyed, three quarters (75 per cent) of IT decision makers said they consider sustainability key to business growth, 76 per cent said it was key in attracting and retaining talent, and 72 per cent said it is a key differentiator when choosing a vendor.
The survey also focused on the role of AI in achieving sustainability goals.
A staggering 87 per cent of the IT decision-makers surveyed indicated that they have already invested or are planning to invest in AI sustainability solutions for their businesses within the next 12 to 24 months.
For those who have already invested or are planning to invest, the data revealed an annual expenditure of £1,029,524 on AI sustainability solutions.
Given that 76 per cent of the IT decision-makers surveyed acknowledged AI's significant role in achieving sustainability targets, this investment figure is expected to rise further.
"As shown by this research and our recently released report, it is positive to see organisations putting their money where their mouth is by investing in green technology," said Donal Sullivan, CTO at Auxilion.
"What the report and survey data highlights is a direct link between sustainability and business growth, which is something the industry has been debating for some time.
"We expect to see this investment by UK enterprises in green technology increase over time, as well as the role of AI in enabling organisations to deliver on their sustainability targets.
"One of the most interesting elements of the survey was how an organisation's sustainability commitment and credentials can help to attract and retain the best talent - which is a critical issue for any organisation. Sustainability is important to many people, and this is something leaders need to consider."
