TD SYNNEX's emissions reduction targets approved by SBTi
The distributor has outlined near-, long-term and overall net-zero targets as part of the initiative
The science-based targets initiative (SBTi) has approved TD SYNNEX's near and long-term emissions reduction targets.
The distributor claimed it is the first technology solutions aggregators to achieve this approval.
"I was privileged to sign our commitment to the SBTi Business Ambition Pledge as one of my first acts as CEO of TD SYNNEX following the merger that created our company in September 2021, so it's safe to say sustainability has been a priority for our business from Day 1," said Rich Hume, CEO at the company.
"I thank all the co-workers involved in building our roadmap to achieving these goals. The approval by SBTi is a testament to their hard work and commitment."
SBTi develops standards, tools, and guidance to address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
TD SYNNEX's net-zero science-based targets have been approved, positioning the company at the forefront of corporate climate action.
Approved targets include:
- Overall net-zero targets: TD SYNNEX committed to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by FY2045.
- Near-term targets: TD SYNNEX committed to reduce absolute scope one and two GHG emissions 42 per cent by FY2030 from a FY2022 base year. TD SYNNEX also committed that 90 per cent of its suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services, will have science-based targets by FY2028. TD SYNNEX further committed that 58 per cent of its customers by revenue covering use of sold products, will have science-based targets by FY2028.
- Long-term targets: TD SYNNEX committed to reduce absolute scope one, two and three GHG emissions 90 per cent by FY2045 from a FY2022 base year.
In the making
During the opening of TD SYNNEX's Vendor Summit 2024 in March, UK&I MD David Watts had already announced that "after replacing one stubborn boiler system in our warehouse, we will achieve net zero emissions for scopes 1 and 2".
In a post-event conversation with CRN, Watts shed light on the group's progress regarding scope 3 emissions.
"Considering our own circumstances, which encompass scopes 1, 2, and what we can influence in scope 3, we've pretty much done as much as we can for scopes 1 and 2," he said.
"We need to work on scope 3, which largely revolves around our supply chain, and we're currently collaborating with our manufacturers and couriers on this front."
"It's challenging work because often we have to coordinate between the manufacturer, the courier, ourselves, and our customer to align everything."
TD SYNNEX joins fellow distie Westcon-Comstor and MSP Logicalis in having its targets approved by the org.
