Bring on the New Year

CRN editor Sara Yirrell is looking forward to 2009

Sara Yirrell: I for one, am looking forward to the year ahead

Happy New Year to you all.

I hope you had a great Christmas break and are ready and raring for battle in 2009.

I say battle because we all know it is going to be a fight this year, in some instances for survival, but for others a fight to stay at the top of their game and beat the competition.

By all accounts this is going to be a tough year for a lot of people both on a business and a personal level and we are almost certainly going to see a lot of big names hit hard by the downturn both in our own industry and others.

But knowing the channel, it is more than up for the challenge.

As ever CRN is planning an action-packed year, and we are hoping to keep everyone’s spirits up by finding positive news among the doom and gloom that is bound to continue, unfortunately.

Through my numerous conversations before the Christmas break, the overwhelming belief in the channel is that consolidation will continue apace this year and credit will be ever more difficult to secure. But businesses that have been sensible and have prepared for the difficult times will not find this a barrier to business.

Millionaires are born out of recession, or so the saying goes.

I, for one, am looking forward to the year ahead and am determined to see the back of this particular credit crunch as soon as possible.

Bring it on.
