A prize worth fighting for

Sara Yirrell prepares for CRN's Fight Night

The week has finally arrived when 16 brave fighters from the channel will slug it out in the ring in the name of charity.
As the dust settles on Channel Expo 2008 for another year, CRN is straight into its next new event. It is never quiet on this title.

It almost seems like a distant memory when we first started talking about a Channel Fight Night last summer and wondered whether the industry would take such an evening to heart.

Launching a new event is hard work and there is always going to be a degree of caution from the industry until the first event has taken place, but then all the hard work pays off as momentum builds. Just look at the success of the Channel Awards.

CRN Fight Night was in fact unveiled at last year’s Channel Awards and the response we had was overwhelming albeit some the result of a few too many beers at the bar. The candidates were eventually whittled down and the chosen group started the long process to get fighting fit.

Sadly, we have had a couple of fighters drop out, one through injury and one for personal reasons, but we are confident that all the bouts will go ahead as planned.

I would like to thank all our fighters for the hard work and effort they have put into their training and I am sure they will enjoy their hard-earned 15 minutes of glory on the night. A special thanks also goes to trainer Mark ‘The Burf’ Burford who has been a true mentor to all the contenders.

I would also like to thank all the generous companies that have donated charity auction prizes there are some great ones on offer and we are sure they will raise a lot of money for worthwhile causes.

We are sure that CRN Fight Night will end up as another vital date in the channel calendar.

Good luck to all the boxers and see you there.
