The art of collaboration

Never in my years of following and studying politics has a General Election created so much excitemen in the UK.

Yirrell: Collaboration between businesses has been around for many years -- but what about in politics?

Last week we had the inevitable to-ing and fro-ing as our politicians tried to get their heads around the fact that no one party had achieved a majority from the votes, and they realised for the first time since that brief moment in the 1970s that they had to try to work together.

Of course, collaboration in business has been happening for many years because most firms realise the benefit of sharing new ideas and experience for the greater good. It can and does work.

I don't envy the new government. It has some tricky decisions to make as it is faced with a huge deficit and economic instability, despite the bone china-thin recovery we have started to see this year.

Not everyone will be happy with the election outcome, but a recent poll found that over 50 per cent of CRN readers felt a Tory government would be best for business.

We shall finally see if that is the case.

I am hopeful that the new era of politics will benefit the electorate and hopefully encourage the growth of UK plc.

What do you think of the new government and the prospects for business in 2010 as a result? Send in your views.
