Daniel Laws

Managing director, Kelway

Career so far I've been at Kelway for 10 years.

Do you care about green IT? The majority of our clients do so, yes! We are now at a stage where it would be unusual for a corporate rollout not to include some form of environmentally sound disposal process and a lot of the datacentre projects we work on are centred around power and heat reduction.

If you could be in a rock/pop band, which one would it be and who would you be? I would kill to have one per cent of the talent of Tim Rice-Oxley (Keane's pianist). Playing chopsticks for 10 years has become a bit boring.

What is the best corporate jolly you have ever been on/taken partners on? Early on at Kelway we sold a load of HP laser toner and I went to Marrakech on the back of it. The whole trip was unbelievably good, and it must have cost a fortune.

Has 2009 been as bad as everyone said it would be? It has certainly been hard, but business is still there and Kelway will continue to show organic growth in 2009. Run rate business has been a particular challenge but most recently we have seen a definite upturn.

Have any of your predictions come true this year? Only that Newcastle would turn out to be even worse than everyone thought and get relegated. To be honest I was surprised we lasted until the last game of the season.

What do you see as the channel's biggest challenge in 2010? That small upturn is perceived as a full recovery. We have a way to go yet and I'm not sure that some budgets will ever come back.

What is the best part of your day? Waking up and remembering I'm now a dad! Sorry, I'm only a few weeks in and still in ‘proud father' mode.
