Matthew Wiltshire
Managing director, GlassHouse Technologies (UK)
Career so far? I sold storage for a large UK distributor, then founded and ran a storage consulting business. It was acquired by GlassHouse, after which I built the UK Alliances business and I'm now running GlassHouse in the UK.
Do you care about green IT? Yes. I hope the efforts we make now will benefit generations to come. Green IT is also driving business and innovation opportunities.
If you could be in a rock/pop band, which one would it be and who would you be? Not now obviously, but Mick Jagger had a pretty good time of it!
What is the best corporate jolly you have ever been on/taken partners on? The 2002 Champions League Final in Glasgow. We stayed at Gleneagles, had lunch with Gordon Strachan, watched the magnificent Zenedine Zidane and partied in Glasgow, whisky tasting till dawn.
Has 2009 been as bad as everyone said it would be? From a business perspective, it's been tough - harder than any time I can remember. August felt particularly painful as the UK virtually shuts down nowadays. But we're starting to see a more positive trend now.
Have any of your predictions come true this year? Not yet - but, come 31st December 2009, I strongly believe the prediction relating to GlassHouse's performance will!
What do you see as the channel's biggest challenge in 2010? Understanding and adapting to the new and permanent way people will consume and buy IT. As technologies converge and the cloud concept becomes a reality, organisations need to be clear about where they add value.
What is the best part of your day? The part when my inbox fills up with salesforce.com "booked deal" notifications.
