Nigel Woods

Technical director, Intercept

Career so far I've been in IT for 24 years so suffice it to say that I'm a Fellow of the BCS and I sit on the Citrix Technical Council. Before joining Intercept, I worked at Corporate IT and Getech. At Intercept I get to see customers as diverse as The Atomic Weapons Establishment and Carphone Warehouse.

Do you care about green IT? All our solutions are based around green technologies - virtualisation and thin clients save power and cost and encourage reductions in hardware. It's core to our approach.

If you could be in a rock/pop band, which one would it be and who would you be? I'd love to be Mark Knopfler in Dire Straights. Rock on!

What is the best corporate jolly you have ever been on/taken partners on? Our last company trip to Portugal. We took all the staff to a five-star hotel in the Algarve. My stand-out moment was deep-sea fishing.

Has 2009 been as bad as everyone said it would be? Not at all. Intercept has been extremely busy; we're very positive. Of course the economy has affected us, but we're hiring staff and moving forward this year.

Have any of your predictions come true this year? Yes, we predicted a shift from server to application and desktop virtualisation that is taking place. We forecast six months ago so we were ahead of the curve.

What do you see as the channel's biggest challenge in 2010? The top challenge will be what customers' IT budget is, and the second is keeping up with IT innovation and ensuring we're leading the charge.

What is the best part of your day? I love the whole day at Intercept, but the best time is going home happy that we've worked hard and made our customers happy!
