Robert May

Managing director, Ramsac

Career so far Prior to forming Ramsac in 1990, I worked in most sectors of the IT industry, including training, programming, software development, technical support, sales, channel management, network installations and systems consultancy working for Orchard Business Systems, Orchard-ACT, Paxus Professional Systems and Solution 6.

Do you care about green IT? Yes, we have been dedicated to green IT for a number of years and recently there has been a lot of debate over whether being green is advantageous during an economic slowdown. However, we believe that being green doesn't have to mean greater expenditure. On the contrary, often all it takes to save energy, and thereby reduce carbon emissions and costs, is intelligent thinking and forward planning.

If you could be in a rock/pop band, which one would it be and who would you be? U2, Bono.

What is the best corporate jolly you have ever been on/taken partners on? One of the disties arranged a channel go karting championship in Puerto BanĂºs which made a very refreshing change (and I won!).

Has 2009 been as bad as everyone said it would be? No, we've had to work harder to achieve the same results but there is plenty of business out there.

Have any of your predictions come true this year? Yes. The demand for unified communications.

What do you see as the channel's biggest challenge in 2010? As always I think it's getting your clients to view IT as an investment rather than a cost.

What is the best part of your day? Work wise I love the early hours and I typically start at 5am, but the highlight of the day is seeing how excited my daughter is to see me as I walk through the door in the evening.
