Martin Hellawell

Career so far: I spent some 13 happy years within different areas of the Computacenter Group, including many years in Europe. I then had my wilderness years, wondering what to do with myself, before the call came from Softcat five years ago.

If you could be anyone else for a week, who would you be and what would you do? I would be Peter Kelly, Softcat chairman, and transfer the 52 per cent of the company I own to Martin Hellawell. Then I'd resign.

What would you have as your last meal? Penelope Cruz for starters.

What is the best corporate jolly you have ever been on/taken partners on? The World Cup 2002 in Japan, courtesy of Toshiba. I was unemployed at the time, but somebody dropped out the night before and I was available.

Do you see the cloud as a threat or an opportunity? I see it as an enormous opportunity for all those who are agile enough to embrace it. But, like all things, it will take time.

Have any of your predictions come true this year? I said I was a heart attack waiting to happen. In July I had one - told you so.

What do you see as the channel's biggest challenge in 2011? It's the same every year - the channel must carry on employing good people, and provide an outstanding workplace for employees and outstanding service for customers. Everything else will fall into place - there is plenty of business out there.

What is the best part of your day? I'm a morning person. I wake up every day with a big smile on my face and a spring in my step - then everything goes downhill from there.
