Roll up, roll up

Lisa Jones says the indigenous sport of Gloucester should be in the Games

What was your first job, and how did you get into IT?
My first proper job was as a receptionist of an ISP. I moved into sales support within a few months, and really enjoyed it. I unintentionally beat the sales target of my long-term friend at the same company; she has forgiven me though.

Planes, trains or automobiles?
Automobiles. Flying makes me nervous, yet I still throw myself into planes for a decent holiday and of course for work.

What sport should be in the Olympics?
Cheese rolling. I'm from Gloucester.

Which fictional TV character is borrowing ideas from your life?
Do cartoons count? Stressed Eric. Have you seen him?

What could prompt you to give it all up and join the revolution?
My family; I'd do anything for them no matter what.

"In my dreams …"
... I save the world. It's true, I do it all the time.
What was your best business trip ever?
VMworld [the annual VMware extravaganza] always makes me feel lucky to be a part of IT.

What was the best holiday you ever went on?
A recent ski trip. I went with my sister, and laughed all week.

What would your superpower be?
To cure cancer. SuperAntiCancerGirl! Not so catchy, but all for the right reasons.

Will we see businesses take green ICT more seriously this year?
It depends on the business; who is driving the need to change in light of green concerns and why. It does seem to come in and out of focus - but most things in life seem to be cyclical. The green agenda should underpin most business decisions.

If someone shrunk you to the size of a pencil and put you in a blender, how would you get out?
I think that would be a sad way to go.

Do you use social media?
Light usage of both business and personal sites.

Your closest near-death experience?
I was subjected to overnight carbon monoxide poisoning one time. I am very lucky I survived.

Is IT well taught in schools?
I'm not sure. It has been a long time since I was a student! I think we could learn from schools about what can be achieved. Plus they are fearless.
