19. Alternative Networks - £117.3m

Last year saw the publicly listed comms VAR expand its top line, largely through acquisition, but operating profit stalled, leading to margins taking a downward turn. The VAR saw sales grow 22 per cent, but operating income rose just two per cent to £9.3m. The revenue figure was boosted by the addition of sales from Scalable Communications, the £13m-turnover Mitel partner acquired by Alternative in late 2010.
