Garry King
Managing director, Shift K7 Group
Career so far I have been in IT the whole gambit, from PC builder, buyer, sales, operations and now managing director.
If you could be anyone else for a week, who would you be? Spiderman. He is one of the good guys and appears to be forever young.
What will next year’s most overhyped industry buzzword be? BYOD. A great idea but the IT department that needs to support and secure them will take some time to warm to the idea. I’m not sure it will be mainstream by the end of 2013.
Has 2012 been a good, bad or ugly year? it has been the best year yet; we’ve had good results and we have just acquired a managed service business, so we are feeling positive.
What would you have as your last meal? I’d like to say a cheese fondue with a good red wine, but a gourmet burger and fries would get the nod if it really was the last.
What keeps you awake at night? Young children normally. Then trying to work out how to improve/grow while not dropping the ball elsewhere.
What piece of technology could you not be without? The Nespresso coffee machine in the morning. Then the iPhone.
Have any of your predictions come true this year? No, not yet: I still can’t work out the six numbers I need to win.
What is the best partner/customer trip you have ever been on? I went to Palma once with Frontline (now that was a long time ago) for the weekend. I can’t remember much else about it now though.
What do you see as the channel’s biggest challenge in 2013? The economic outlook is gloomily because people talk negatively – it doesn’t help anyone. Diversification is the key to staying profitable – pressure is from all sides and big doesn’t mean better.
