Tony Price

Managing director, Chiltern IT

Career so far

I have spent over 20 years in the IT industry across three great companies (CHS, WStore and Chiltern IT).

What was your first job and were you any good at it?

I was junior assistant at a golf club. It was difficult not to be good, as it mainly involved pricing sweets and pinning notices on boards.

Who was your top teenage pin-up?

Sam Fox, Brian Robson and Nick Faldo, in that order.

My colleagues won't know this about me but... I appeared on the kids TV programme Freetime with my school in a five-a-side football competition - "It's Price with a left foot shot... goooallllll!"

What is your favourite snack?

Chocolate.

What has been your career high point to date?

Starting a reseller from scratch and employing some great people who got us to £25m within five years.

Has 2013 been good, bad or ugly?

A good but tough year, as lots of foundations for future growth are being implemented.

What do you say when asked at a party what you do for a living?

I work for a company that keeps the IT world working. This then leads to how and why questions.

If I wasn't working in the channel I would probably be... a junior assistant at a golf club, as I was good at pricing sweets and pinning notices on boards. I might have been able to give a few lessons as well.

What will be the channel's biggest challenge in 2014? The same as every year, it's finding the right people that can make a difference.
