Phil Doye

Chief executive, Kelway

Career so far

I have now worked at Kelway for exactly half my life!

What was your first job and were you any good at it?

Thorn EMI Ferguson apprenticeship but I was never going to be the world’s greatest electronics engineer.

Who was your top teenage pin-up?

Hmm… Servalan from Blake’s 7 (For those that don’t remember that is not a network appliance!).

My colleagues won’t know this about me but…

I once supported West Ham Utd.

What is your favourite snack?

I’m not sure I have one.

What has been your career high point to date?

I hope it will be this year when we hit half a billion revenue.

Has 2013 been good, bad or ugly?

As always there has been a mix of all three but on balance it has been a good year as the economy has improved, our prior year investments are paying dividends and our sales in the past six months have ballooned.

What do you say when asked at a party what you do for a living?

I sell computers.

If I wasn’t working in the channel I would probably be…

Bored.

What will be the channel’s biggest challenge in 2014?

To maximise the opportunity of an improving economy and to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving market with new competitors.
