Marco Andresen
UK country manager, Acer
What was the worst job you have ever had?
I worked for a large IT vendor managing a global outsourcing customer. Great results, good team but I had literally nothing to do (besides reporting to the company´s senior management).
Which actor would you pick to play you in a movie of your life?
Christian Bale, because I am still impressed how well he acted in American Psycho, one of the few movies that “beats the book”. And if he can play a psycho so well then he could definitely play me and my less complicated life. What do you do as your party trick? Usually say something unexpected that you would not expect from me. It breaks the ice…
What is your favourite chocolate bar?
Bounty, closely followed by KitKat.
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
At Acer, in Sweden, between 2012 and the end of 2013, when we had great success returning the business to profitability and at the same time growing the consumer market share to well over 30 per cent. Has 2014 been a good, bad or ugly year? It has been good. Acer is doing well, I met some new great colleagues and customers in the UK and I am enjoying life in London.
How would you explain the IT channel to a stranger without boring them to death?
The “IT channel” is the collective name for manufacturers of products, service providers, distributors and resellers – all with the mission of providing customers the latest technology to share data. Everyone performs a necessary function from creating new products and services and ensuring they end up in the hands of the end user.
Aside from the channel, my dream career would be… coaching a football team.
What major issues will the channel face in 2015?
I actually think 2015 will be a positive year for the channel.
