Martin Hellawell
Chief executive, Softcat
What was the worst job you have ever had?
Having to execute a significant redundancy plan in my early career. Very unpleasant.
Which actor would you pick to play you in a movie of your life?
Sir Ben Kingsley. I see myself as a bit of a Brummy Ghandi.
What do you do as your party trick?
Drink a lot and tell everyone I love them, because I do.
What is your favourite chocolate bar?
Fudge. It only costs 19p. Not that I'm tight.
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
Being part of the team to take Softcat from a £50m to £500m company in less than a decade.
Has 2014 been a good, bad or ugly year?
Great: I'm still alive and lucky to be so. I think we forget just how good we have it sometimes.
How would you explain the IT channel to a stranger without boring them to death?
We are to technology and businesses what pubs are to drinkers - without the vomit and associated health risks.
Aside from the channel, my dream career would be... running a kindergarten. I think the skills would be very transferable.
What major issues will the channel face in 2015?
Having so little time to make the most of so many opportunities.
