Richard Dendle

Managing director, Britannic Technologies

What was the worst job you have ever had?

Commercial apprentice at a steel works. It was so very, very boring.

Which actor would you pick to play you in a movie of your life?

Daniel Craig: smooth, athletic, blue eyed - almost like me.

What do you do as your party trick?

I really don't have one. Boring though? Never!

What is your favourite chocolate bar?

I'm not really into chocolate. If M&M's (yellow) count, I'd say those, as I like peanuts with the chocolate (the blue ones are best).

What has been the highlight of your career to date?

That's really difficult to answer. We continue to have success at Britannic, having clear goals and direction. Each new period brings new highs - in developments, business and solutions, so ask me in a few years' time.

Has 2014 been a good, bad or ugly year?

It has been another good year for Britannic, building on the success of the previous years. We have realised some of the investments made in infrastructure, services, additional staff, solutions and business generated.

How would you explain the IT channel to a stranger without boring them to death?

We are enablers, providing the infrastructure, platforms and services for our customers to support their business. Offering resiliency, business continuity, greater security and in many cases more cost effectively than their current ‘spend' - a win, win. We allow customers to focus on their business, underpinning growth, improvements in their customer engagement and their business development.

Aside from the channel, my dream career would be... a ski instructor in the winter months; the rest of the year a sailing and diving instructor - what better jobs are there?

What major issues will the channel face in 2015?

As always, keeping pace with the technology advancements and knowing how to take advantage of them. The better channel solutions providers (like Britannic) will, the others may well be left further behind - finding it more and more difficult.
