Nicholas Scallan

Chief executive, Pinnacle Technology

What was the worst job you have ever had?

Delivering free newspapers where I grew up, outside Glasgow. The delivery ran to hundreds of copies, over far too big an area, and I had to rope in members of my family to help.

Which actor would you pick to play you in a movie of your life?

Like most males I would hope Brad Pitt or George Clooney due to their outstanding acting skills; nothing to do with the resemblance, of course.

What do you do as your party trick?

Take a bet for the lowest note in anyone's wallet. I always carry an old Scottish £1 on me.

What is your favourite chocolate bar?

Galaxy.

What has been the highlight of your career to date?

This job. Pinnacle Technology has loads of potential. We have a great team here, great customers and great products.

Has 2014 been a good, bad or ugly year?

It has been the hardest but most rewarding year of my professional life. Running a business is such a step up from working for someone. The buck stops here.

How would you explain the IT channel to a stranger without boring them to death?

It is easier than it used to be. I'd relate it to something they had with them, like an iPhone or tablet, and build from there.

Aside from the channel, my dream career would be... hard to pick just one. Chef, pilot, racing cars. Every boy's dream really. The list goes on.

What major issues will the channel face in 2015?

A couple come to mind: the importance of security, and ensuring businesses are adequately protected; and the continued evolution of the channel to engage with many more IT "clients" within an organisation than used to be the case.
