Paul Jones
Managing director, Total Computer Networks
What was the worst job you have ever had?
After uni, my parents made my brother and me do a multitude of character-building jobs, but the worst was the chip factory. We had to don wellies and a hair net at 3am and pick out "bad" chips as a conveyer belt of them rushed by at breakneck speed, and if you were agile or lucky enough to grab a "bad" chip you had to pop it in the "bad chip" bucket. The definition of a "bad chip" was a black chip, a broken chip or a squashed or irregular shaped chip.
Which actor would you pick to play you in a movie of your life?
Rowan Atkinson, because I have been told that I resemble him.
What do you do as your party trick?
It's called "The light bulb" but I can't reveal what it is.
What is your favourite chocolate bar?
That's a tough one - it's a cross between an old-school Topic and a Twix.
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
The success of Total Computers has been the highlight of my career to date, without question.
Has 2014 been a good, bad or ugly year?
2014 has been not only a good year but an outstanding year. Turnover has increased from £30m in 2013 to £40m in 2014 and this has been by far our most profitable year to date. We have opened an office in London which is growing quickly and we also set up Total Services which has been immediately successful and is growing at an amazing rate.
How would you explain the IT channel to a stranger without boring them to death?
In short, the IT channel is a "middleman" between the product creator and the marketplace. Yawn.
Aside from the channel, my dream career would be... a stunt man.
What major issues will the channel face in 2015?
The general election will create some uncertainty in 2015 and companies will be cautious until they have visibility of the new government's intentions.
