Stuart Macdonald

Chief executive, Seric Systems

What is your greatest career move to date?

Becoming self-employed and investing in me.

What is top of your bucket list?

A trip to Japan.

What has changed most since you started working in the channel?

Everything has got a little ‘harder'. It's less fun and there is pressure on margins, which affects everyone's attitudes.

How do you think Brexit is going to affect the channel?

I don't think there are many channel-specific issues relating to Brexit, to be honest.

What is your least favourite task during the working day?

Filling in forms.

If you were an animal, what would you be?

A platypus. I am not the prettiest and may appear incongruous but I am generally very good at specific tasks.

If you won the big one on EuroMillions, what would you do?

Pay off the wife's credit cards then panic over how to pay off mine.

What is your worst habit?

Being late, while swearing and interrupting people.

How has 2016 been for you?

It has been challenging and exciting in equal measure.

If you didn't work in the IT channel, what would be your dream career?

A documentary film maker - there is nothing as interesting as real life.

What major issues will the channel face in 2017?

The inexorable and inevitable vendor creep toward channel services and increasing number of low-cost disruptive market entrants.
