Garry King

Chief executive, Shift F7

What is your greatest career move to date?

Letting go of the things I wasn't good at to people who are better at it.

What is top of your bucket list?

So, so many - retiring early so I am fit enough to do them all.

What has changed most since you started working in the channel?

IT engages with everyone now, rather than the isolated IT manager trying to enthuse about what these PCs can do for you.

How do you think Brexit is going to affect the channel?

It will affect our clients investing in IT by delaying decision making. We are already witnessing delays where overseas student enrolments are down and storage implementation is put on hold.

What is your least favourite task during the working day?

I don't have one; see my answer above about letting go.

If you were an animal, what would you be?

A dolphin. I love being in, on top of and underneath the water.

If you won the big one on EuroMillions, what would you do? Buy a big campervan, pack up the family and go walkabout.

What is your worst habit?

Hmmmm, not saying no to that last glass of red.

How has 2016 been for you?

It's been exciting and hard work so far: another acquisition completed and integrated, new DR and hosted platforms set up and clients being very interested in transitioning to our services.

If you didn't work in the IT channel, what would be your dream career?

A float plane pilot, taking off and landing by deserted islands for fun - it's back to that water thing.

What major issues will the channel face in 2017?

Security with clients getting caught with ransomware demands, and an unsettling 12 months as Brexit negotiations bore us all for far too long.
