Tell us something most people won't know about you

After school, I considered studying music but chose engineering instead. I continued my classical training in violin and today I play regularly with the Hibernian Orchestra in Dublin.

What has been your highlight of 2018 so far?

Two highlights: one has been the acquisition of Zinopy Security recently, doubling our business. Second is completing my term as president of Ibec, an amazing year representing the voice of Irish business at home and internationally.

Who would play you in the film of your life?

Meryl Streep.

Which tech firm (other than your own!) do you most admire?

Zinopy Security, which is why I acquired it.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Ferrero Rocher.

What is the most irritating tech buzzphrase of 2018?

‘Digital detox'.

What would be your first act if you were made Prime Minister?

First let's see what type of Brexit we have.

What's the biggest untapped opportunity facing the channel?

Consolidation - there's still too much fragmentation in the market.

What is your most treasured possession?

My violin.

What do your family think you do all day?

Go to meetings.

Who has been your mentor in business?

Previous bosses in my earlier career: Frank Cole, David Laird and more recently our chairman Arthur Griffin.
