Paul Timms

Managing director, MCSA

Tell us something most people won't know about you

When I was 15 I represented the UK in Japan and Korea as part of the 1991 Scout Jamboree - an amazing experience where I met people from across the globe in a culture that was so alien. The trip really made me appreciate what people can achieve together when faced with challenges far outside of their normal comfort zone.

What has been your highlight of 2018 so far?

We got a new puppy last month - she is very social media savvy and already has her own Instagram account.

Who would play you in the film of your life?

Indiana Jones.

Which tech firm (other than your own!) do you most admire?

I recently met Managed 24/7's John Pepper. I was impressed with the ethos of the business and how quickly they had built a quality service offering from scratch.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Taking time out to play golf.

What is the most irritating tech buzzphrase of 2018?

‘Serverless architecture' - a complete misnomer!

What would be your first act if you were made Prime Minister?

Resign - who needs that stress in their life? But maybe a weekend in Chequers first, and on my way out bash a few heads to encourage that the UK is presented in a more positive light, particularly around the strengths our businesses have.

What's the biggest untapped opportunity facing the channel?

If I knew that I would be tapping into it - probably the opportunity to mature the SME/mid-market outsource arena and package the cloud offerings that are already there in a more relevant and saleable fashion.

What is your most treasured possession?

My family - too twee! OK, my golf clubs... actually they should be first.

What do your family think you do all day?

Chat, have a few meetings and then play golf.

Who has been your mentor in business?

The influences have been many and varied over the years, but my dad has been the most important individual, the founder and now chairman of the company. He is still available when I need a sounding board - I am very grateful to have had him as a role model.
