Anushka Davies
Head of talent, engagement and diversity, Softcat
What has been your business highlight of 2022?
I loved seeing 1,900 Softcatters attend our annual kick off which was a special one post Covid. It was fantastic to see everyone in person for the first time since our last face-to-face kick off in 2019 where we had 1,100 employees attend. Our kick off events are a great way to meet everyone from all our offices and a great chance to connect - I've missed it over the last few years with them being virtual, so it was just so great to see so much energy fill one huge room.
If you were ruler of your own country, what law would you introduce first?
I'd make sure that education across the country was fair and equal. It's the basics that a child can get to give them the best start in life.
Which channel or tech leader (outside of your own company) has impressed you most in 2022?
I'm always really impressed by the work that Debbie Forster does to improve diversity across the tech sector. She's a force for change and is impressive in the way she collaborates with organisations to make the sector a more inclusive and diverse one.
If you had a warning label, what would it say?
"Loves a nap." I love getting a sneaky nap in on the weekend! After a long week, it always surprises my family that I fall asleep so quickly and enjoy a snooze in the car while the kids are at their gymnastics class or just a quick nap on the sofa! Shame I'm not such a great sleeper at night!
What was your first job?
I worked at Boots The Chemist on the No.7 and perfume counter when Sunday trading first started. I continued working for Boots through university on the weekends and even for the first month or so after I started at Softcat.
What was the last book you read, and was it any good?
I was recommended a book by one of our account managers in our Glasgow office called No Way Back by A J Liddle. His father wrote the book; a great murder mystery novel which I thought was a great read.
What's the most important lesson you've learned from another business leader or mentor?
To always ask for feedback to help you learn and grow. Feedback can be hard to take, but it's crucial to your development and helps you be more aware of your blind spots.
Who would play you in a movie of your life?
I guess a Bollywood actress since I am Indian - maybe someone like Priyanka Chopra!
