CEO, TechQuarters
What has been your business highlight of 2022?
We are now fully remote and fully global - and who would believe it, we are concentrating on how we can be more social instead of just working!
If you were ruler of your own country, what law would you introduce first?
Keep the selected party in position for six years, so that they have a good chance to implement the policies and stop all the chop and change.
Which channel or tech leader (outside of your own company) has impressed you most in 2022?
Elon Musk - I really do think that the Tesla cars have reached a tipping point, particularly in the UK. You just have to pop outside, and they are everywhere. I actually tried to buy one and it was the simplest online purchase, and only a handful of colours. I also loved a recent tweet about an update being required to the windows which was beamed over the air instead of recalling of the cars.
If you had a warning label, what would it say?
"FOURRRRRR right!" This typifies my game of golf.
What was your first job?
I was Saturday junior shelf stacker at Waitrose in Stourbridge. My mum loved the staff shopping; I didn't make many friends as she asked me to fill a box of goodies for her every Wednesday night. She loves a good deal, just like me.
What was the last book you read?
It would be an audio book - Dopamine Nation, by Dr Anna Lembke.
What's the most important lesson you've learned from another business leader or mentor?
There have been a few really good lessons learnt over the years. The first entrepreneurial lesson was to just give it a go with what you know, and you'll learn stuff along the way, and this just avoids procrastination - nothing is ever perfect from day one.
Who would play you in a movie of your life?
I would say Jesse Eisenberg is a good fit because he has a good amount of energy and he always plays roles where he is a bit of a talker - like in the films Now You See Me or The Social Network.
