Mark Petty
Sales and marketing director, Littlefish
What has been your business highlight of 2022?
My business highlight for 2022 is twofold. First, delivering record New Business sales at Littlefish for the sixth year running, engaging 30 net new customers and contributing to the creation of hundreds of jobs. Second, it would be the backing of new investors in Bowmark Capital, great partners to help Littlefish achieve its next phase of success.
If you were ruler of your own country, what law would you introduce first?
The banning of making, owning, or dropping nuclear bombs or any other Armageddon capable devices.
Which channel or tech leader (outside of your own company) has impressed you most in 2022?
I first met Andy Gomarsall as a businessman. I had no idea he played rugby as I'm not a fan or follower. Andy's passion for sustainability and building and leaving a better world behind him really impressed me. He is always looking forwards, always striving for better outcomes and his passion for all things environmental is very hard to ignore and not be inspired by.
If you had a warning label, what would it say?
"Beware: Speaks his mind!"
What was your first job?
My first ever job was as a shop assistant in a grocery store in the centre of Walsall. My first real post graduate job was a sales rep selling stationery and office equipment for what was then Lyreco, door to door in Birmingham.
What was the last book you read, and was it any good?
Trillion Dollar Coach. It was brilliant. Highly recommended easy read with some great insights to the IT industry's greats and some snippets to easily add to your coaching/leadership repertoire!
What's the most important lesson you've learned from another business leader or mentor?
There are so many. But for me the single biggest would be to cultivate a strong work ethic. There is unfortunately no substitute for hard work!
Who would play you in a movie of your life?
James Corden. He is funny, energetic, literally larger than life and has a great sense of style.
