What's the most surprising lesson 2024 has taught you so far?
I think how fast technology is moving forward and the increasing amounts of cyber-attacks across all industries, the pace is incredible and now we have the early stages of AI, it can work to address concerns as well as create more challenges, as I am sure we will find out as time goes on.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
I would have to say Alan Turing, having visited Bletchley Park, you get a real sense of how much Alan and his Team achieved based on the technology at the time. If he had been allowed to be his authentic self without fear and judgement, imagine how much more he would have offered the world? I would want him to see how much the world has changed. We stand on the shoulders of giants.
Which tech or channel figurehead has impressed you the most this year, and why?
I have a few in mind as there are so many. I admire Andreea Dumitrescu, MD of QBS Software, who has worked her way up and understands so many job functions within the business, being a female IT leader is a testament to her hard work and being so approachable to boot is something that should not be taken for granted. I also admire Jamie Brothwell, recently promoted MD of Exertis UK and Manpreet Kaur Bath, EMEA DEI Lead at DCC Technology and CRN Diversity Champion 2024. All are great advocates of driving inclusive in the Tech Industry which is something close to my heart as I share this passion. We really are moving forward in Tech and having inclusive diverse teams makes better business for everyone, and that’s exactly what these figureheads do and I love it!
What technology trend do you think is being overhyped, and why?
I think we are hearing so much about AI which is amazing and we need to embrace new technologies, but also not get carried away with all the good when we also know there will be challenges that need to be addressed before we all run in one direction.
If you were stranded on a deserted island but could have one piece of tech with you, what would it be?
I would have to say my mobile phone, although I would enjoy the peace, I am also a people person so would eventually need some human contact and I also need music in my life!
What's your go-to productivity hack that keeps you on track during a busy day?
I find my Outlook calendar is my friend and I can block out time as needed if I really need to focus on something, plus I can move things about in order to prioritise the most important topics of the day.
If you had the time to learn one new skill, what would it be?
I think it would be to continue to improve and learn new DIY skills, I do get a sense of satisfaction when I do something myself without help and there’s always something that needs doing! I am quite a practical person!
