What's the most surprising lesson 2024 has taught you so far?

I always say to anyone, no one else has to believe in your dreams other than you. If anyone else doesn’t share your goal that is their failing and not yours. Back yourself because if you don’t believe in you why would anyone else.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

Freddie Mercury, he is a hero of mine for his creativity, flamboyance and showmanship. He also famously sang, ‘You can be anything you want to be, just turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be’ which are the very words I live by.

Which tech or channel figurehead has impressed you the most this year, and why?

Karlton Gray at APC with his resilience, passion and commitment to DEI including the creation of the You Me and IT podcast. Bravo.

What technology trend do you think is being overhyped, and why?

AI, I believe there is absolutely a place for AI however I do not believe you can ever substitute the emotional value and experience of humans.

If you were stranded on a deserted island but could have one piece of tech with you, what would it be?

This is an interesting question as it would require power so assuming I have power it would be my mobile phone with my music streamed. Music is a huge part of my life, I sing every day, love all music and particularly enjoy quoting lyrics as anyone who spends any time with me will testify.

What's your go-to productivity hack that keeps you on track during a busy day?

I have adopted the ‘Medal or nothing’ approach to everything myself and the team do, if it is not driving toward our ultimate goal and success don’t do it!

If you had the time to learn one new skill, what would it be?

I would like to learn to play the Piano, a little known fact is that I am a keen singer. Singing the songs of Billy Joel, David Bowie, Elton John and Queen. When I eventually retire from the channel I plan a second career as my alter ego – Billy Bowie the Rocket Queen.
