What's the most surprising lesson 2024 has taught you so far?

You can’t control what isn’t in your control. If it’s within your control, tackle the problem, and if it isn’t, try to change your emotional state. I try to embrace the unexpected and the new opportunities it will often bring.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

The Brit Charles Darwin. One of the most famous people in history for his groundbreaking work, but if he was here today, I would be fascinated to understand now what his view of the world and the future of the species would be. A great beard to see too!

Which tech or channel figurehead has impressed you the most this year, and why?

Jeetu Patel. In his new(ish) role as Executive VP and Chief Product Officer for Cisco, his bold vision and swift execution has really accelerated Cisco’s goal to build world class products and lead with innovation.

What technology trend do you think is being overhyped, and why?

AI solving everything for everyone, every day, now. I do see AI as a generational change, but it’s not all going to happen straight away. Take data, an important pre-requisite for AI, and as we know many organisations are yet to solve the data maturity piece.

If you were stranded on a deserted island but could have one piece of tech with you, what would it be?

For practical reasons, a water purifier! Assuming an abundance of fresh water though, a solar powered digital music player. Having a source of music would help keep me sane.

What's your go-to productivity hack that keeps you on track during a busy day?

Keeping focused on what you are trying to achieve may sound obvious, but it has helped me over the years. By allocating and blocking a chunk of time that can then be broken down as required to achieve complex tasks really helps.

If you had the time to learn one new skill, what would it be?

Mastering the piano. I love and enjoy the power of music, so being able to play the piano would be a joy.
