Scott Tyson
Director, MSP EMEA, Sophos
What's the most surprising lesson 2024 has taught you so far?
Patience and empathy. If we put ourselves into the other person’s situation, we can empathise as to their requirements and make decisions and suggestions based on the person we are trying to help or sell to.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Don Bradman. To be the very best cricketer not only during his time, but the greatest by a huge margin since the game began, I would love to get more insight if it was determination, natural skill, mindset, practice etc. To have his statistics which may never be beaten and are far superior to the next best is just mind-blowing to me.
Which tech or channel figurehead has impressed you the most this year, and why?
I would probably refer to our EMEA management team here at Sophos as opposed to one person. The talent and leadership I get to work with every day in our SVP, channel VP along with the marketing, HR and regional leaders makes being part of that leadership team very special and inspires to be the best.
What technology trend do you think is being overhyped, and why?
I am sure this is subjective but for me, the Metaverse seems to be overhyped since its inception and the buzz around it. Companies spent a lot of money creating platforms, but I haven’t seen the return or use as we would have expected as yet!
If you were stranded on a deserted island but could have one piece of tech with you, what would it be?
My iPhone provided I had 5G coverage. I would like to think that I could then get help to pick me up but until the battery ran out, I would have things to watch or play and even use to create a spark for a fire.
What's your go-to productivity hack that keeps you on track during a busy day?
I am a little old fashioned and still use a notebook and pen every day. I also have a running list of meetings, calls and important activities throughout the day I need to complete and cross them off with a highlighter once complete.
If you had the time to learn one new skill, what would it be?
Learn German. I visit a lot and have a great team I manage in the region. It’s a country I love and would like to be able to converse freely instead of only being able to order a beer.
