What are the opportunities for the channel with the growth of AI?

Encryption, privacy, & data protection: a balancing act

This white paper examines the risk posed by encrypted threats; considers the business, privacy, and security implications of managing that risk; and presents constructive measures for balancing security needs with employee privacy rights. In the end, the best way for IT leadership to ensure the rights of the individual employee is to protect the organization from threats and attacks.

How do MSPs really feel the channel will shape up by 2020?

      On borrowed time?

Cybercrime has become a huge part of our economy and it is a topic that is getting more and more attention in the news media. The cybercriminal stories making headlines involve big companies such as British Airways and Marriott etc. However, smaller companies are just as susceptible to cyber- attacks. Often these attacks are much more damaging to smaller businesses, sometimes forcing them to shut down completely. One report from Verizon claims that 43% of email attacks target SMBs.

Few would dispute that cyber-security remains the IT market's hottest sub-sector.

Each week seems to bring news of another high-profile hack, each more ambitious, sophisticated, and destructive than the last. As it has become all-too clear that even governments and the largest multinational enterprises can suffer a breach, both end users and their IT partners now seem to accept that it is impossible to protect all your infrastructure, all the time. Put simply, being hacked is a matter of ‘when', not ‘if'. The sense of powerlessness is only added to when some of the IT security industry's biggest names utter statements such as "anti-virus is dead".

Of course, most vendors and resellers would refute that claim. But all would accept that the nature of security is changing. The long-standing staples - including anti-virus, as well as anti-malware, email security and others - have been built around and supplemented with new and different technologies. And, in a world the occasional successful breach is an inevitability, detection, mitigation, and analysis become just as important as protection - if not more so.

Through all this, security remains one of the IT channel's most bankable sectors. Research and anecdotal evidence suggests that, even in straitened economic times, businesses and the public sector do their best to protect security budgets, and continue to invest in a technology that is seen as a necessity.

At a time of enormous change for such a crucial sector for the channel, we thought we would find out what resellers across the continent are seeing in the security space - how customer attitudes are evolving, where they expect growth to come from, and what their priorities and pain points are.

In partnership with Ixia, we put together a survey and quizzed more than 100 senior figures from more than 100 VARs across Europe and beyond about their projections for their security business. Many of them also provided us with detailed qualitative feedback on core verticals, key technologies, and market trends.

Our findings offer a revealing insight into how resellers and their customers view security, how much - or little - the sector is likely to grow, and what technologies and ideas will define its future.
