Mobile devices such as tablets and two-in-ones have made their mark on the enterprise sector, and they are here to stay. While business users love the consumer-style features of some devices, many lack the enterprise-specific functionality required in the workplace, leaving users in the lurch, and the IT department despairing at their lack of serviceability.
But HP has claimed enterprise users no longer have to settle for mobile devices which were not designed for them thanks to the arrival of its Elite x2 1012 two-in-one range, which has been designed specifically for the business user.
Speaking to CRN - as part of this post, sponsored by Westcoast and HP Inc - Westcoast's HP PC commercial business manager, Brad Hattingh, said that the product's business-focused features mean it stands out against other offerings aimed at the segment.
"The main benefit is that the device is enterprise fit," he said, adding that the attention paid to serving the business user specifically makes the product unique.
The device comes with "out-of-the-box" security, which helps keep sensitive information safe thanks to HP Client Security and optional features such as a self-encrypting drive. Authentication is another area in which the tablet excels, HP claims, with a fingerprint reader integrated into the device. On top of this, a detachable travel keyboard with an integrated smartcard reader is also available.
"It is about being more mobile; having all the enterprise-fit features such as security and manageability meaning you are no longer restricted by the shortcomings of traditional tablet platforms available today," added Hattingh.
Serviceability is at the heart of the product's design, HP claims, with in-field service available, allowing battery replacements and minor repair issues to be dealt with quickly on site. When it comes to reliability and security, customers can find assurance in that the Elite series undergoes 115,000 hours of rigorous endurance testing as well as using HP BIOSphere and HP Sure Start Technology for self-healing security.
Hattingh added that while these are key selling points for the x2 range that resellers can boast about to their customers, there are many other additional features such as an integrated kickstand, an interactive pen, noise-reduction software and audio by its partner Bang & Olufsen.
"If you look at the collaboration with Bang & Olufsen, HP's sound partner, along with specific applications such as Skype for Business, they are significant selling points," he added. "The noise-reduction software by Bang & Olufsen ensures you have clarity on voice quality which can be a real benefit when conducting business on the move."
Hattingh reiterated the products' defining attributes and explained how he thought the x2 1012 added value to the market:
"HP business tablets offer the serviceability for the key components, which is uncommon across vendors in the marketplace," he said. "Combine this with all the other intrinsic features, and the x2 1012 is unique."
