Industry Voice: Shaping the future together: Key takeaways from TD SYNNEX’s Third Global Annual Direction of Technology Ecosystem Report

The Third Global Annual Direction of Technology Ecosystem Report from TD SYNNEX offers a comprehensive view of the shifting dynamics within the technology sector’s partner landscape today, and tomorrow. As digital transformation accelerates and global challenges reshape industries, the report highlights the critical role of collaboration among channel partners.

With AI continuing to impact and influence business operations, the report highlights how partners are increasingly adopting advanced technologies, such as AI and GenAI, to stay ahead of the curve.

In addition, partners are increasingly prioritising Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. These social responsibilities are now major drivers of market change, with partners aligning their strategies to meet evolving stakeholder demands for sustainability and equity.

Leveraging innovation for business success

Innovation continues to be a critical driver of growth in the technology sector, with companies increasingly turning to emerging technologies such as AI, cybersecurity, and cloud services to fuel their development. AI, in particular, has seen rapid adoption, with 44% of partners planning to introduce AI solutions within the next two years—an impressive 214% increase since 2022. This trend highlights AI’s growing importance, as businesses seek to harness its potential to improve productivity, streamline operations, and enhance customer experiences.

Many partners are also expanding their portfolios to include a range of complementary services, such as generative AI, AI-powered devices, and AI training solutions. This broadening of offerings illustrates the diversification of the technology landscape, as businesses strive to stay ahead in a highly competitive market.

Collaboration: The backbone of innovation

In today’s technology ecosystem, collaboration is indispensable. With the majority of IT spending in 2024 projected to be driven by partners, the emphasis on teamwork has never been greater. Partners identified organic growth (50%) and engaging with other channel players (42%) as their top growth strategies. This underscores the essential role of collaboration in driving innovation, adapting to change, and thriving in an increasingly competitive environment.

As partners face heightened competition and margin pressures (52%), along with the need for continuous technical education (48%), the benefits of working together become even more apparent. By sharing knowledge and resources, partners can keep pace with rapid technological advancements and enhance their service offerings to meet evolving customer needs.

The surge in global IT market growth

The global IT market is primed for significant growth, with forecasts predicting a rise to $4.94 trillion in 2024. An impressive 73% of this growth is expected to come from partner-delivered services and products, reinforcing the importance of channel partners in the tech landscape. Sectors such as cybersecurity (92%), telecommunications (91%), and IT services (85%) are overwhelmingly driven by partner-led initiatives, reflecting a growing trend towards collaborative, partner-centric growth.

Furthermore, a strategic shift is taking place as a quarter (24%) of partners consider mergers or acquisitions as part of their growth strategies for 2024. This movement signals a clear recognition that aligning with other partners can enhance competitiveness and provide more comprehensive solutions for customers.

Expanding horizons: Domestic and international strategies

As partners refine their strategies, a dual focus on domestic and international expansion emerges. Over half of those surveyed are concentrating on expanding their technology offerings (57%) and strengthening their domestic presence (51%). At the same time, interest in international growth has surged, with the number of partners eyeing global opportunities rising by 50% over the past two years, to 39% in 2024. This shift points to a growing recognition of the benefits of pursuing new markets and scaling their services on a global scale.

Targeting new verticals also remains a priority, with 33% of partners planning to enter new industries. As the tech landscape diversifies, partners understand the importance of tailoring solutions to meet the distinct needs of different sectors.

Addressing the ESG imperative

Global regulations surrounding ESG are prompting partners to elevate sustainability as a core business consideration. Roughly 37% of partners expect managing ESG requirements to be a significant challenge over the next two years. With stakeholders such as investors and customers demanding greater transparency, partners must implement systems that track and report ESG performance effectively. Europe is also at the forefront in offering broader ESG reporting/accreditation solutions, with nearly one-third (31%) of respondents identifying ESG as a currently offered solution.

However, the rise of ESG regulations, such as Europe’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and proposed SEC rules in the US, presents an opportunity. Partners can leverage their technological expertise to create innovative solutions that address these regulatory requirements, boosting their market reputation and enhancing competitiveness.

DEI as a business priority

The importance of DEI within the partner ecosystem continues to grow, especially in Europe, where 39% of partners are making DEI metrics a top priority for their clients. As the focus on social responsibility and equity increases, companies are expected to create more diverse and inclusive workplaces. This shift aligns with broader societal expectations for fairness and representation in the workplace.

The report also reveals a notable jump in the importance of DEI metrics, with 46% of partners planning to offer DEI-related business solutions within the next two years—up significantly from just 25% in 2023. This growing emphasis underscores a fundamental shift in how partners view their role in fostering inclusivity and addressing long-standing inequalities.

Leading with purpose and collaboration

As technology channel partners confront an ever-evolving landscape, they are met with both challenges and opportunities. By embracing collaboration, pursuing targeted growth strategies, and integrating social responsibility through ESG and DEI initiatives, partners are positioning themselves for long-term success in the market.

Rather than simply reacting to market shifts, partners are leading the charge in innovation and responsible practices. Their ability to prioritise cooperation, sustainable growth, and social accountability will be instrumental in shaping a resilient and successful future. Together, they are not only charting a course for their own growth but also driving the entire technology ecosystem forward in a more equitable and sustainable direction.
