TalkPoint looks to have its say in UK channel

New York-based webcasting player opens City office as it looks to woo VARs on this side of the pond

Set for take-off: TalkPoint hopes its London office will be the springboard for UK success

Web-based audio and video webcasting specialist TalkPoint has opened an office in the UK.

The service provider is keen to ramp up the white labelling of its offerings through the channel.

Nick Balletta, chief executive of New York City-based TalkPoint, said the company’s technology is commonly experienced under the Cisco WebEx brand. He said TalkPoint technology is popular in financial services and other specific vertical markets, such as healthcare. But now it is opening its own office in the UK at 1 Poultry in the City of London.

“We have been working with a lot of companies providing market data or investment information. But we are looking to work with solution providers, such as videoconferencing integrators, too,” said Balletta.

TalkPoint has been doing most of its UK business direct. However, it has hired a UK sales director and will be developing its white-label offering through the channel, and rolling out a partner programme. Around-the-clock tech support will be available.

“We have a pretty good US channel, but we will be expanding here,” Balletta said.

WebEx offerings are often part of Cisco unified communications deployments. May saw children’s charity Barnardo’s deploy WebEx to train 8,000 staff at nine regional offices.

Lisa Johnson, information services and learning development manager at Barnardo’s, said in a statement released by Cisco: “My information services team consists of five people based around the country. Training the staff without any form of distance learning would mean a combination of classroom sessions and on-site visits, but that approach is not particularly efficient.”

Cisco’s third-quarter technology and customer highlights notice reported that Cisco WebEx online meetings can now be used by millions of users due to the rollout of new collaboration apps for iPads and BlackBerrys.
