Happy holidays from CRN!
Here’s to a restful break and a transformative 2026
As 2025 draws to a close, the UK IT channel can reasonably look back on a year defined less by stability than by sustained adaptation.
Economic uncertainty persisted throughout the year, compounded by regulatory change, geopolitical disruption and renewed scrutiny of global supply chains.
Overlaying all of this was an AI debate that rarely sat still, swinging between claims of existential risk and promises of instant transformation.
For channel partners, it made for a noisy and often contradictory operating environment.
Against that backdrop, one theme emerged with notable consistency: resilience.
Across business models, geographies and partner types, firms adjusted strategy, recalibrated ambition and, in many cases, reset how they present themselves to the market.
That recalibration was particularly visible in the wave of rebrands seen over the course of the year.
In many cases, new names and refreshed identities were not cosmetic updates but signals of deeper change, reflecting shifts in long-term direction.
Geographic ambition also featured prominently. With domestic conditions remaining challenging, a growing number of UK partners looked outward for growth.
These moves reflected both confidence in their operating models and a recognition that expansion would increasingly come from beyond national borders.
AI, unsurprisingly, remained a defining undercurrent.
As the year progressed, the conversation matured.
Channel leaders became more willing to question inflated expectations, even as they acknowledged the tangible impact already being felt in areas such as automation, productivity and service delivery.
For many, the question shifted from whether AI matters to how quickly hype would give way to more sustainable deployment.
The tougher side of that transition was also on display.
A succession of vendor layoffs raised uncomfortable questions about how often AI-driven efficiency was genuinely behind job cuts, and how often it served as a convenient explanation for restructurings that had been deferred for too long.
Taken together, these trends point to a channel that is being reshaped by necessity.
Repatriation, resilience and reinvention have pushed partners further into the role of trusted architects of the UK’s digital infrastructure, responsible not just for delivery but for long-term strategic guidance.
Even so, the year was not without moments of levity. Amid the pressure, the channel’s appetite for well-designed technology remained intact, so we’ve collected some of the best kit for December 2025 and beyond in a little gift guide. Just in case you’re looking for a last-minute stocking stuffer.
As the industry heads into 2026, the challenges are unlikely to ease.
But you all know that already. So before we dive headfirst into the new year, from all of us at CRN, thank you and happy holidays.
We’ll be back in January, covering the news and trends that matter to you.
