SBTi greenlights Zyxel carbon emission reduction targets
The vendor aims to reduce Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions by 90 per cent by 2050
Taiwan-based vendor Zyxel Networks has had its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), as it works to align with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement.
Its near-term ambitions include cutting absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42 per cent by 2030, using 2021 as a base line, as well as reducing absolute Scope 3 emissions by 58.8 per cent by 2034 from a 2023 base year.
In the long-term, it intends to decrease Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions by 90 per cent by 2050.
To reach its goals, the organisation has launched initiatives such as installing solar power systems to increase renewable energy use, implementing a digital carbon management platform to monitor emissions, and replacing outdated equipment to enhance energy and operational efficiency.
Through green procurement practices, product carbon footprint management, and collaboration with suppliers, Zyxel also intends to build a low-carbon value chain in partnership with global customers and stakeholders, driving collective progress toward a net-zero future.
The vendor also reportedly aims to optimise product design by integrating low-carbon innovation and circular economy principles, such as improving product energy efficiency, extending product lifespans, and increasing the use of recyclable materials to reduce lifecycle carbon emissions.
Zyxel follows the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework to regularly assess climate-related risks and opportunities, and to report emissions data and progress toward net-zero commitments.
Beside sustainability, the firm has been through many changes since the start of the new year.
In February 2025, it named Ken Tsai president in an effort to enhance its momentum in global markets.
In January, the vendor unveiled its new partner programme designed to support partners as they develop their managed services and adapt to their customers’ evolving needs.
This approval comes as the channel is doubling down on sustainability, as the SBTi also recently validated German VAR Bechtle’s carbon reduction targets.
