Smart CT has won a contract with Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions to provide maintenance and support for 32 UK high street retailers.

The three-year deal will cover organisations across areas including supermarkets, fast food, sport, charity and clothing.

Under the agreement, the Reading-based IT firm will maintain and repair thousands of retail point-of-sale systems, printers, scanners and headsets for Toshiba.

Around 10,000 callouts a year are expected for Smart CT’s network of 65 engineers across the UK, recently strengthened with the addition of 20 staff who joined from the manufacturer.

“This is a significant deal for us because although we already provide a substantial amount of retail services for customers across Europe, this gives us a greater level of scale,” said Andy Morgan, CEO of Smart CT.

“Around 10,000 service requests is a big number but it demonstrates our ability as an organisation to support multiple technologies at scale - networking, service storage and workplace technologies, which includes retail.”

He added the contract was secured despite strong competition.

This marks the third arrangement won by the company in less than 12 months.

In April, it signed a three-year agreement with retail intelligence organisation MRI Software for more than 30,000 devices across more than 500 UK stores.

The partnership involved ensuring networking routers, switches and access points remain operational to keep tills, servers and security cameras working.

That same month, the firm also inked a contract with an unnamed France-based retailer for the outsourcing of internal networking maintenance support across more than 500 locations.

“This is the retail push that we have planned for and having such a significant number of customers puts us in a strong position to win more,” explained Morgan.

“While this recent win is in retail, our business is well established across multiple industries, providing deployment and maintenance services for critical IT infrastructure and providing a fast and reliable service at scale.”
