Ireland-HQ Viatel Technology Group has acquired West Midlands-based EDNX to bolster its network infrastructure capabilities across the UKI.

EDNX specialises in enterprise networking and network infrastructure, with expertise across campus networks, secure IoT, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, SD-Access and application-centric infrastructure.

It also works with organisations in regulated and mission-critical sectors, including pharmaceutical companies and NHS Trusts.

Viatel said the buyout will strengthen its ability to support customers in these environments, where network resilience, security and performance are becoming increasingly important amid increasing AI adoption and regulatory requirements.

The deal also expands Viatel’s Cisco practice, bringing together two Cisco Premier Partners.

The group said EDNX’s networking expertise will complement its existing cybersecurity, managed services and AI capabilities across the UK and Ireland.

“EDNX brings exceptional expertise and a strong track record of delivering enterprise networking solutions in some of the most demanding environments,” said Paul Rellis, CEO of Viatel.

“Their technical capability complements our existing strengths in connectivity, cybersecurity and managed services while creating new opportunities to bring advanced networking services to our customers.”

David Ratcliffe, CEO of EDNX, added: “Joining Viatel gives our customers access to broader capabilities while preserving the technical excellence and customer focus that have defined EDNX.

“The combination also creates exciting opportunities to bring our specialist enterprise networking, infrastructure, secure IoT, campus network and Cisco capabilities to organisations across Ireland while supporting continued growth throughout the UK market.”

This marks Viatel’s second UK takeover this year, following its buyout of Scottish cybersecurity consultancy FullProxy in July.

The deal also comes after a string of leadership changes at the organisation.

In March, Viatel Technology Group appointed Eilish O’Connor as its first director of strategy and AI.

In January, it named Marty Patterson as client CTO and promoted Damien McCann to MD of Viatel Communications Services.

Last September, it appointed Jonny Moura as head of technical innovation.
