Mitel looks to gobble up telecoms rival ShoreTel

ShoreTel mulling 'unsolicited offer' Mitel sets its sight on another acquisition after buying Aastra

Mitel has made a bid to acquire rival telecoms firm ShoreTel.

The unsolicited proposal from Mitel is for all of ShoreTel's outstanding shares for $8.10 (£5.01) per share in cash.

The news of the offer comes after Mitel swallowed up Canadian rival Aastra in February, a move which reportedly pushed its revenue reach to $1.1bn.

It remains unclear whether or not ShoreTel will accept the offer but in a statement released by the firm it said: "Our board of directors will carefully review and evaluate the proposal and determine the course of action that it believes is in the best interest of the company's stockholders."

The statement from ShoreTel also advised stockholders not to take any action pending the review of the proposal by the company's board of directors.

In March ShoreTel's chief executive Don Joos reiterated his firm's commitment to the channel and said the company had a three-year window to establish itself a the market's leading hosted comms player.
