Cybit has sold its enterprise-grade security division, Cybit Cyber, to Dublin-based digital services provider Viatel Technology Group.

Based in Belfast, Cybit Cyber serves public and private sector customers across Ireland, Scotland and the north of England.

This buyout affects Cybit’s Cyber operations which are based out of Belfast; the company’s other UK divisions are unaffected.

Cybit and Cybit Cyber will reportedly continue to collaborate when necessary to provide continuity and value for customers and partners across both firms.

“This decision marks a significant milestone in Cybit’s evolution. By focusing our efforts on our core mid-market strategy, we are better positioned to deliver innovation and value to our customers,” said James Hunnybourne, executive chair at Cybit.

“We are proud of the legacy and expertise built within Cybit Cyber and are confident that under Viatel’s leadership, the team will continue to thrive.

“We remain committed to supporting our customers, partners, and employees throughout this transition and look forward to future collaboration opportunities.”

Paddy Trainor, MD at Cybit Cyber, added: “Our team has built a strong reputation over many years for delivering trusted cybersecurity solutions to enterprise and public sector clients.

“Now, with Viatel’s backing, we are well-positioned to accelerate our growth and looking forward to expanding our capabilities to deliver even more value to our customers.”

Paul Rellis, Viatel’s CEO, explained that Cybit’s expertise in enterprise-grade cybersecurity will “perfectly” complete his organisation’s capabilities.

“This acquisition reinforces our commitment to delivering secure, scalable, and innovative solutions to businesses across Ireland and beyond,” he said.

The acquisition was backed by the strategic investment firm Macquarie Capital, which became one of Viatel’s shareholder in 2023, as the digital services provider intends to further expand within the island of Ireland and internationally.

Cybit Cyber, formerly Cyphra, was first acquired by Pixel Holdco, Cybit’s parent company, in 2021.

This is the first divestment effectuated under Hunnybourne’s leadership, as the executive chairman joined Cybit three months ago.

He previously assumed the role of CRO at Ultima.
