Twyford-HQ lifecycle services firm Smart CT, which helps MSPs, VARs and system integrators deliver projects and support customers worldwide, may now be contemplating a future in the stars.

The company recently strengthened its relationship with Elon Musk’s Starlink, viewing satellite connectivity as a growing area of demand.

But looking to space is not driving the company into an Icarus story, as CEO Andy Morgan keeps his feet firmly grounded in realism and explores various paths to growth.

In an interview with CRN, he explains the company is deeply involved in networking through its partnerships with vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper and Extreme Networks.

He also identifies workplace technologies as an important segment, spanning point-of-sale systems, AV equipment, IoT devices and sensors.

“Everything is connected to IP,” says Morgan.

“Screens, Wi-Fi points, sensors, door entry, CCTV and point of sale.”

The rise of connected devices is driving demand for deployment and maintenance services, particularly in multi-site environments such as retail and financial services, adds the CEO.

AI and workforce evolution

The organisation is also using AI internally to improve processes and customer experience.

As part of its continuous improvement programme, employees are encouraged to suggest operational improvements each month, with some initiatives incorporating AI tools.

“We’re trialling and testing constantly,” Morgan explains.

“We test prototypes first, then build.”

However, the firm’s leader does not expect AI to reduce headcount, emphasising the importance of customer relationships and on-site support.

“It’s about elevating customer experience.

“We provide insurance so when technology breaks, we’re there to fix it.”

With 110 employees globally, including more than 60 engineers in the UK, Smart CT expects to continue expanding its services and geographic reach as demand for multi-site IT support grows.

While technology is reportedly not leading the company toward workforce reduction, the organisation is rejigging its exec team to drive momentum.

Smart CT recently hired Eddie Egan as COO to scale the business while maintaining a strong customer focus.

“As the business is growing, the need to scale while keeping focus on the customer is really important,” notes Morgan

ESG ambitions

ESG initiatives have also become an increasing priority for the organisation, particularly in response to customer procurement requirements.

The lifecycle services firm has implemented ESG targets and undergoes annual external audits as part of its sustainability programme.

“Every tender now asks what credentials you have.”

Smart CT’s lifecycle services model contributes to circular economy initiatives by extending the lifespan of IT equipment and reducing waste.

“By nature of our service, we support circular economy by extending asset life,” it says.

The company has set a net zero target for 2045, although it notes that infrastructure limitations such as EV charging availability remain a challenge in some regions.

“Customer service is always first priority,” says the CEO.
