Avsnet snaps up Besttel

Former Intrinsic chief Mike Mason eyes expansion as he leads firm on the acquisition path

Networking and comms integrator avsnet has acquired northern rival Besttel for an undisclosed sum.

Avsnet, which specialises in UC, network and collaboration, boasts former Intrinsic chief Mike Mason, who joined the firm last summer, as a non-exec chairman.

Explaining the purchase, Mason said: "We are thrilled to welcome Besttel’s skill sets into our portfolio. As a company we have a heritage in collaborative videoconferencing and network-centric UC and, with Besttel joining us, we can further augment these skills with Besttel’s strengths in network, datacentre, virtualisation, security and wireless.

"Besttel’s strengths allow us to take the BYOD trend one step further in allowing users the choice of instant messaging, presence, audio, video and webconferencing tools on mobiles, tablets, PCs, laptops and room-based telepresence and videoconferencing suites," he added.

Graham Fry, managing director of avsnet, said: “We are all really excited for Besttel to join the avsnet team. Our combined skills are complementary and our geography will allow both companies to support all our customers in the North and South.

"We have a clear vision in what we are delivering to the market and we are all really looking forward to Paul’s team further adding their technical expertise to the robust integration and support offerings we have."

He added: “This really does represent good news to our customers in the breadth of services we can offer and further adds to the depth of skills and capabilities we have in integration, project management and in life care and support. We have experienced extraordinary growth over the past four years at 40 per cent year on year and I can see this acquisition boosting our aggressive growth aspirations even further."
