HP's sustainable impact initiatives grew new revenues to $972m last year

Vendor aims to power global operations with 100 per cent renewable energy by 2035

HP saw its Sustainable Impact programmes generate $972m in new revenue in 2018, according to its Sustainability Impact Report.

That figure represents a 35 per cent year-on-year increase on 2017's figure.

The report documents the business benefits for the vendor in investing in sustainability and local communities.

The vendor also set out a goal to increase recycled content plastics across its print and personal systems portfolio to 30 per cent by 2025.

Last year it used 21,250 tonnes of recycled plastic in HP products, including over 4,700 tonnes in its printing products, representing a 270 per cent increase from 2017.

The report stated that HP has already sourced approximately 700,000 pounds of ocean-bound plastic material for use in its cartridges and hardware.

Geroge Brasher, MD of HP UK&I, stated: "We have invested in our portfolio so that recycled plastic becomes a part of our durable, premium products.

"Our business priority is to drive a more efficient, circular and low-carbon economy and our advancements, such as 3D printing, are further helping to drive down emissions in the manufacturing supply chain - making life better for everyone, everywhere."

The vendor also set out a timeline for its global operations to be powered entirely by renewable electricity by 2035, a feat it claims to have already achieved in the US.

"Companies have critically important roles to play in solving societal challenges, and we continue to reinvent HP to meet the needs of our changing world," said Dion Weisler, HP Inc's CEO.

"This isn't a 'nice to do', it's a business imperative. Brands that lead with purpose and stand for more than the products they sell will create the most value for customers, shareholders and society as a whole.

"Together with our partners, we will build on our progress and find innovative new ways to turn the challenges of today into the opportunities of tomorrow."
