Waste not, want not: Exertis launches trade-in portal for resellers

Distributor Exertis is launching a recycling portal for resellers that lets customers build a quote for the recycling of multiple devices.

The trade-in portal will cover various categories such as handsets, tablets and laptops.

Once received, all traded-in devices are fully data-wiped using Blackbelt Smartphone Defence.

Exertis also explained that there is also the option to provide individual data wipe certificates, if required.

The company is providing this recycling service through its branch MTR, which has hosted a trade-in website for end users for more than a decade.

MTR operates as a stand-alone, autonomous business division focused on trade-in solutions.

Devices received by MTR have their useful life extended via the secondary device market, with only a small fraction requiring disposal.

These are dealt with in an environmentally friendly manner and are compliant with the WEEE directive.

"Sustainability is a core part of the values we hold as a business," said Exertis CEO Tim Griffin.

"The importance of sustainability in the secondary sales market is more important than ever before, and the market for traded-in handsets is a circular economy that is growing year-on-year.

"For Exertis to provide another sustainable option to our customers, as part of the everyday interactions they have with us, is a great opportunity for us."

Tim Griffin was recently appointed CEO of Exertis, following four years at parent company DCC Technology.

Griffin now has direct responsibility for the entire Exertis UK, Retail & B2B operations and oversees other businesses in the UK and Ireland of DCC Technology.

He will also lead a development plan for the business in the UK to drive growth, innovation and market leadership.
