Jabra plots fresh assault on Plantronics after record 2014
Headset vendor eyes number-one market spot in just two years' time
Jabra has claimed that a series of company records achieved at the end of last year will help fuel its bid to become the number-one headset vendor in two years as it ramps up its assault on call-centre rival Plantronics.
In October, Jabra launched a channel incentive programme designed to lure resellers away from its rival with a six per cent rebate offer.
Jabra's managing director Nigel Dunn (pictured) told CRN that so far, about 40 resellers have already taken advantage of the scheme but he expects to reap even further rewards from it this quarter, which is - not coincidentally - an important time for Plantronics.
"We announced [the scheme] at our partner conference and started taking registrations in November so we expect to see the results of that this quarter," he said.
"That is important because this is Plantronics' final quarter of the year so we want to disrupt that as much as we possibly can - without being nasty or vindictive to them. Clearly it is their big buying season, so why can't it be ours as well?"
Dunn said Jabra is well positioned to win competitive deals after Jabra smashed a number of records in the UK and Ireland (UKI) last year.
"We have a lot to be proud of after a record month in December, a record quarter in Q4 and a record year," he said.
In 2014 Jabra's UKI unit grew 25 per cent on the year before and Dunn added that the company is in a much better position starting this year than it was 12 months ago thanks to the foundations it laid last year.
2015 will be a crucial year for the company as it continues its mission to become the number-one headset vendor by 2017.
Over the coming months, the firm plans to boost its headcount by 30 per cent and it is currently in talks to move out of its Egham base to a new location.
"We will strive to ensure 2015 will be another year of records, as we will look to achieve the same growth as 2014 or more," Dunn added.
