Tech Data launches new service to assess partners' emissions

Tech Data is providing a new net zero carbon consultancy service (NZC) as it aims to help partners address carbon emissions.

The distributor claims the move will help partners drive sustainability, with the service assessing a partner's own emissions (Scope 1 and 2) and that of their supply chain (Scope 3).

This is done using the greenhouse gas (GHG) protocol - it will provide a plan detailing practical and actionable strategies to help the partner achieve net zero carbon emissions, Tech Data says.

David Watts, managing director and senior vice president of the UK and Ireland at Tech Data, said: "We've launched the net zero carbon service because partners have been asking us what they can do about addressing their carbon footprint. We wanted to help them."

The move has also seen Tech Data commit to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.

The service is being offered in partnership with specialist consultancy Arete Zero Carbon.

"At Tech Data, we are doing everything we can to address our own emissions and move towards NZC. Partners want to do that too, but many don't have the resources to commission a full analysis themselves," Watts said.

"We have worked with Arete to come up with a service that is practical, scalable, and affordable. It will enable any partner business of any size to get a proper assessment of their Scopes 1, 2, and 3 and develop an actionable plan to reduce their emissions."

Four service packages will be available - Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold+.

This will provide partners with options that cover a basic evaluation and understanding through to a complete assessment covering every detail of its carbon impact plus an Advanced Guide to net zero, Tech Data says.

Watts has urged partners to act on NZC, adding: "As well as being the right thing to do, having a NZC plan makes business sense. End user customers are now asking their IT suppliers about their approach to sustainability, their carbon footprint, and NZC plans.

"Having a net zero strategy will add value to their business and support the building of long-term customer relationships."

Watts laid out Tech Data's net zero strategy in an interview with CRN earlier this year, which includes moving its Basingstoke HQ to a more energy-efficient building and introducing an EV salary sacrifice scheme to staff.
